Salad supports both GPU and CPU mining. Currently you are only able to chop on one of these at a time.
GPU:
Salad supports most Dedicated GPUs with at least 2GB of VRAM from recent generations. This generally means that Kepler series NVIDIA GPUs (GTX 700 series) and Hawaii series AMD GPUs (R9 200 series) and up should work. There are a few exceptions to this however on older cards, and some may not work even if meeting the VRAM requirement of 2GB.
Some examples of supported Graphics Cards:
- GTX 1050 Ti
- RTX 3070
- Radeon RX 460
- Radeon RX 6800
CPU:
Salad also supports CPU mining if your GPU is not up to the chops. This can be enabled in the Earn > Miner Details page of the application. Salad supports most 64bit x86 CPUs from within the past 10 years, providing they meet the CPU Cache requirements. Salad needs 2MB of cache per core, so if your CPU has only 4MB of cache, only 2 cores can be used. With 16MB, a total of 8 cores can be used (providing your machine has this many cores), and so on and so forth. If you are unsure how much cache your CPU has, you can find this by googling your CPU model and reading the manufacturers page.
Salad also requires a minimum of 3GB of System RAM installed in order to operate under CPU mining. It also requires at least 2.3GB of your RAM to be free. We recommend having at least 4-6GB installed.
Some examples of supported CPUs:
- Intel Core i7 7700
- Intel Core i5 3470
- AMD Ryzen 7 3700
- AMD Ryzen 3 1200
If you are unable to mine with your current GPU or CPU, there are other means of earning Salad Balance on the application. Find the “Offerwalls” tab, located in the Earn page, where you can complete tasks from third party “Offer” platforms in exchange for Balance.
Here’s how to find your GPU if you don’t know what your computer has: How to Find My GPU. Here’s the difference between VRAM and ordinary RAM: VRAM vs. RAM.
You can find your CPU on the same page as your GPU, after selecting CPU at the top of the page.
If you’re unable to find your machine’s CPU or GPU, or think that something else may be causing your PC to be incompatible with Salad, feel free to visit our community forums or submit a support ticket.
